The Alsace vineyard is the northernmost in the Grand Est region. Growing on the hills that run alongside the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains, it stretches for 74,5 mi (120 km) following the Rhine. Seven grape varieties form its AOC (Appellation of Controlled Origin) label: Muscat, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Riesling, and Pinot Noir, Blanc, and Gris. These wines are easily recognizable by their bottle, shaped like an Alsatian flute.
