The adventures of Telemachus
0
0
On the walls of the marquises’ bedroom at the Château du Haut de Villarceaux, the three Brussels tapestries in wool and silk (17th century) originate from the old feudal castle. Bordered by a frieze of acanthus leaves, they illustrate the adventures of Telemachus, taken from the eponymous work by François Fenelon (1651-1715). In front of the tapestries, a polonaise bed signed Jean-Baptiste Lelarge (1743-1802) is decorated with red silk and gold thread trimmings on cardboard. A series of armchairs and chairs in the Louis XVI style (straight legs) complete the imposing décor of this ceremonial room.
