Trunkfish are coral and algae grazing tetraodontiform fish of the Ostraciidae family. Their exoskeleton composed of welded hexagonal bone plates gives them this particular shape and protects them from the reef predators. When they deflate their gill chamber filled with water, they can lose up to 30% of their apparent volume.
