Territorial organization in the Baliem Valley

The Baliem Valley, located in the heart of the central mountains of West Papua, is mainly occupied by the Dani ethnic group. Divided into unstable alliances, it brings together several confederations forming territorial, social and political entities. Each entity has up to 40 people who constitute a clan and live in a fenced village made up of wooden thatch-roofed huts called 'Honais'.
