Ten squares of graves

The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial of Colleville-sur-Mer is reflected on a basin at the entrance, and a central alley divides ten squares of graves. The crosses mark the location of 9,387 soldiers, including four women and 307 unidentified men whose epitaph reads known only to God. In its center, the memorial houses a chapel on which visitors can read: I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. Lower down extends Omaha Beach, one of the five landings beaches of D-Day.
