Bee-eater hunting technique

The Little Bee-eater is the smallest of all the bee-eaters. As other bee-etaters, it feeds mainly on hymenoptera (wasps, bees, bumblebees, hornets ...) and other flying insects that it catches in flight after having spotted them up to 330ft (a hundred meters), thanks to a lookout height. Once the prey caught, it then comes back on its branch. Before eating it, it stuns it, soften it and remove the sting by striking it against the branch.
