Tarnished by the summit's earth

From the seafront of Veules-les-Roses, a hiking trail gives access to a panoramic view of the Côte d'Albâtre (Alabaster Coast). At low tide, the pebble beach is uncovered and leaves a wide ribbon of sand. From Veules-les-Roses, the altitude of the cliffs decreases more and more. While they reach almost 229 ft (70 m) between Saint-Valéry and Veules-sur-Mer, they are already barely 164 ft (50 m) east of Veules-les-Roses. The rainwater that gullies the earth at their summits sometimes causes brown flows that tarnish and mask the layers of white chalk.
