Monitoring the lynx population
As an endangered species, the lynx is among the animals under high protection in the Jura department in eastern France. Only 70 of them remain in the forests of the Franche-Comté region. The Centre Athénas, near Lons-le-Saunier, takes in injured lynxes or abandoned cubs and reintegrates them into their natural habitats once all conditions are reunited. The center places motion-detecting cameras on the trees near their living areas in order to monitor their good health and reintegration into the wild.
