The Grands Causses plateau overlooks the south of the town of Mende at 984 ft (300 m) in the Lozère department. It is home to the grotto of Saint Privat and its hermitage that welcomes an annual pilgrimage. The Grands Causses plateau consists of marine sedimentary rocks and blond limestones used in many constructions in the region, such as Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Privat Cathedral in Mende. The light blond limestone shines under the sun and highlights the monument's two unequal towers.
