The old town of Cahors extends on a peninsula on the banks of the Lot river. The Pont de Valentré (Valentré bridge), built in the 14th century, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the city. The fortified building has the particularity of having three towers making the bridge a specimen unique in the world. Saint-Étienne Cathedral and its Romanesque portal with a sculpted tympanum stands in the heart of the lively old town. The town of Cahors is part of the Grands Sites (Great Sites) of Midi-Pyrénées and is a major tourist center thanks to its vineyards, gastronomy, and architecture.
