In the early morning hours, it is still dark, we climb the 1840 steps to the monastery ruins and the Buddhist temple of Mihintale. The place is historic as it is considered the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. We are rewarded with a fantastic sunrise over the jungle surrounded by the cries of the monkeys and the song of the birds.
