During the lower Cenomanian age, sandstones formed following the ocher sands shaped in the Albian age. Massive banks with rounded contours of soft yellow sandstone stained with red or wine-red appeared at the same time as red sands with intersecting stratification. Some were deposited in the sea, as evidenced by the fragments of fossils found, others on dunes.
