Since the 12th century, the Saint-Nicolas bridge of Joigny under which these tourists are passing has undergone many improvements and enlargements, especially in the 18th century. The work of reconstruction in stone of the three arches initially in wood was entrusted to the contractor Larivière in 1727, those of the reduction of the other seven arches into four arches to his son-in-law Vasserot in 1765.
