Study of fossilized ripple-marks
0
0
To be fossilized, the ripple-marks must be buried by a deposit of particles brought by a new current less aggressive than the preceding one. If the intensity of this current does not erode the previous deposits, the wrinkles themselves or their counterprints are preserved. Their appearance makes it possible to deduce the characteristics of the environment (type, current's direction and strength) at the time of the sedimentary deposit.
