Located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, the Montagne de Lure (5,990 ft / 1,826 m) stands out from the line of the high summits of the Southern Alps. It dominates the Forcalquier region, the eastern Lubéron, and the lands of Haute-Provence dear to the writer Jean Giono. Straddling the Alps and Provence, the Montagne de Lure is subject to their dual influence and belongs to the same geological formation as the Albion plateau and the Mont Ventoux, whose white limestone summit it shares.
