Stilt root rhizophora
1
0
Rhizophora are 32ft (10m) high mangroves with thick foliages which often grow at the front of the mangrove area at the limit of the open water. They have stilt roots which form an inextricable network of several square meters around the main trunk and draw water and mineral salts from the soft substrate on which they grow. Other, so-called adventitious, roots fall vertically from their branches.
