She has been the unofficial patroness saint of Alsace since the 17th century and official since 1946. At the Mont that bears her name, pilgrims have flocked for 1,300 years to pray Sainte Odile. She is represented on numerous statues within the confines of the sanctuary. That of pink sandstone in the closed garden of the convent seems to show her Bible. Two eyes on the cover are a reminder that she miraculously recovered her sight during her baptism. With the stick in her left hand, she supposedly created the spring below the convent, which is said to cure eye diseases.
