Le faux pistachier est un arbuste de la famille des Staphyléacées, originaire des sous-bois humides de l'hémisphère nord tempéré. Il est également appelé Nez-coupé à cause de ses fruits tronqués ou encore Staphylier penné. Il atteint envrion 4 m en tous sens, formant un petit arbre au port buissonnant et arrondi. A partir de mai-juin, apparaissent à l'extrémité des rameaux, des grappes de clochettes blanches au subtil parfum de noix de coco. suivi par la formation de petits fruits comestibles.
