Stained-glass windows by Chagall

In 1959, Marc Chagall agreed to create two bays based on episodes from the Old Testament in the northern ambulatory of Metz Cathedral. One of them depicts Moses receiving the Ten Commandments, David playing the harp, and the crossing of the Red Sea by the Hebrews. Above, Jesus on the Cross wears a tefillin, a Jewish headgear. As usual, Chagall used crude colors to fill its stained-glass windows. As a Jewish artist realizing performances destined to everyone, he intended to spread a Judeo-universal language in his work. A stained-glass window depicting Eve he realized in 1963 was broken by burglars in 2008.
