The main stables of the Haras National du Pin were built in red brick. They are set up in a horseshoe shape in front of the north facade of the stud's castle. Completed at the beginning of the 18th century and dedicated to stallions, they were used under the Old Regime for the selection of breeds and of the finest specimens for breeding. Thus, at the Revolution, the King's stud farm had 196 stallions, including 40 colts and fillies, testifying to the dynamism of reproduction. It also housed 132 approved horses belonging to individuals from the province of Normandy.
