St. Peter’s Church

Perched halfway up the only cobbled street leading to the abbey, in the heart of the village, the small parish church is dedicated to St Peter. Two saints guard the entrance, as benevolent sentinels: the statue of Joan of Arc installed on the square, and that of the Virgin, nestled to the left of the porch. Consecrated in 1909 by the Archbishop of Rouen, the statue reminds us that Joan of Arc had heard the voice of St Michael urging her to save France. St. Peter’s Church has been the sanctuary church of the Mont for ten centuries and the official seat of the pilgrimage centre.
