St. Martin’s Church of Dommartin-le-Franc

0
The village of Dommartin-le-Franc (Haute-Marne) is home to St. Martin’s church. Built in the 12th century, two dates engraved in the church – 1546 and 1559 – testify to 16th century additions. Some of the outer foundations date from the Merovingian period, including a wall made of “opus spicatum” (bricks laid in a herringbone pattern). The church holds a painting representing the “Miracle of the Sacred Pine of St. Martin”, painted around 1768 by François-Guillaume Ménageot. The square-shaped bell tower has an octagonal spire. The roof is covered with slate.
