Spring migration

Spring migration of Common Cranes (Grus grus) towards the shores of the Baltic Sea begins increasingly earlier than before. Global warming has a lot to do with this and cranes leave their wintering grounds (Spain, North Africa) as early as in mid-February. Cranes once again make a stopover at Lac du Der-Chantecoq in Champagne. Their passage occurs before spring sowing, which limits the damage they would otherwise cause. Lac du Der is the primary European site for the stopover of Common Cranes during the migration period. Only a handful of couples spend the winter here.
