Spire and Gothic stone laces

The roof crests of Reims Cathedral are adorned with alternating shamrocks and golden lilies. They are reminders of the cathedral's function as a coronation site for the kings of France. Some were destroyed during the French Revolution and reinstalled by Henri Deneux between 1924 and 1926. Caryatid statues support with their neck the spire rising to 285 ft (87 m). Stone laces of typical Flamboyant Gothic style underline the contours of the roof and the bell towers of Notre-Dame-de-Reims.
