The Domaine d’Esthine is keen to preserve the traditional Cotentin donkey breed (Equus asinus) and raising awareness to it. Brigitte Pieau, the owner of the Domaine, has nineteen Cotentin donkeys, eleven females and eight geldings (sterilised males). The castration of the males stabilises their character and the geldings are excellent companions for hiking. The donkeys enjoy 11 hectares of land to run around: one just needs to look at them to know they feel at home. The making of donkey’s milk by-products completes the hikes on the small paths of the Norman bocage.
