Memories of Clovis' baptism
3
0
The baptism of Clovis by Saint Remigius took place in the Cathedral of Reims in 498, along with 3,000 of his warriors. This baptism allowed Clovis and the Franks to mark their entry into the Christian world. They thus gained the upper hand over the other barbarian peoples in the conquest of Gaul. It is said that during the ceremony, Clovis interrupted the bishop when the latter spoke of the passion of Christ. He cried out: If I had been there with my valiant Franks, I would have avenged him.
