Supporting the abbey's choir

After collapse, the Roman choir of Mont St Michel was replaced by a superb flamboyant Gothic choir which required 70 years of construction (1446-1521). It forms an apse surrounded by an ambulatory around which are articulated 5 radiating chapels and two rectangular chapels. It rises on three levels. This choir is vigorously supported by the Big Pillars crypt below. From the outside, the abbey church is supported by a superposition of flying buttresses adorned, at the top, by exuberant plant decorations in contrast to the sobriety of the interior.
