The Chausey Islands are placed under the protection of the Natura 2000 preservation program. The archipelago's abundant crustacean population attracts many visitors at low tide, when the islets are exposed, endangering the habitat of the seabirds that nest there in large numbers. At high tide, the regulation of motor boats is subject to rules published by the Conservatoire du Littoral (Coastal Protection Agency). Local fishermen use small canoes typical of the island and dories, small flat-bottomed boats propelled by oars or sail.
