The coral reef is a rich source of food for fish regardless of their diet. The piscivorous carnivores meet there many preys ; the others - whether they are zooplanktivorous or grazers of invertebrates or of algal turf - find there a high density in zooplankton, corals and algae. The mortality rate of the fish is inversely proportional to the percentage of complex coral cover.
