The edges of the Malrif lakes in the Queyras massif are marked by a double phenomenon of solifluction and gelifluction flows. They are linked to the impermeability of the schistose soils and the repeated freezing and thawing phases. When the snow melts, the water that fails to sink into the impermeable and still frozen subsoil forms a clayey mud that slides in a flow, carrying stones, earth, and grass.
