Soils conducive to great wines

The vines of Clos de Vougeot extend in the municipality of Vougeot, in the Côte-d'Or department, near the Voie des Vignes (Vineyards Path) linking Dijon to Beaune. The plots, exposed on a gentle slope to the east, the nearby Vouge river, and soils filtering rainwater well are conducive to great wines. Close to the castle, the uplands join the Petit Maupertuis to the south, while the Musignis and Montiottes Hautes to the north are stonier. They bring a smoky note mixed with spices and a touch of old rose that mark the noblest wines of the sector.
