The GHM foundry in Sommevoire still uses traditional methods for the production of cast iron works of art in limited series. Statues, engraved firebacks and even stair railings are cast in two-part frames filled with silica sand mixed with resin. The casting of the molten metal into the tightly closed frames requires precise gestures. As the piece cools down, the gases slowly escape through the vents provided by the caster. Soon, these metal sarcophagi will reveal their contents, the result of the know-how of the craftsmen of Haute-Marne.
