Numerous golden ornaments are placed on the spire and roofs of the abbey church. Made of copper, a lighter metal for the structures, they have been re-gilded by hand in a centuries-old tradition during the 2016 restoration. The pinnacles raise their mineral blooms to the sky and the bluish slates of Travassac, in Corrèze, light up with silver reflections. Here, the beauty and lightness of the architecture is the result of the skills of the medieval builders who fought the elements to erect these extraordinary buildings.
