Skiing track and off-piste skiing

Defining the field of off-piste skiing requires taking up the very regulated French definition meeting the AFNOR standards of the 'alpine skiing track' as it appears in article R 122-8 of the town planning code of 28 December 2015. It is designated there as 'a regulated, delimited, signposted, controlled route protected from dangers presenting an abnormal, excessive character, possibly fitted out and prepared, reserved for the practice of alpine skiing and authorized sliding activities'. Anything outside of this framework can therefore be qualified as off-piste.
