The alpine relief and the steep slopes of the Sancy massif on the Mont-Dore side are just as suitable as the Alps for ski touring. The most popular areas are Val de Courre, for its very mountainous character, and La Fontaine Salée, which has remained quite wild and offers the only refuge accessible in winter. The sectors of Paillaret and Chambon, to the South and to the East, present smoother and easier reliefs.
