Six different types of forests
0
0
Downstream from Retournemer, the circular movements of the glacier eroded the rock to a depth of 22 ft (35 m). In the basin thus dug, an overcrowding lake was formed, fed by the Vologne: the Lake of Longemer. Its west shore is called Envers and stretches out between the Saint-Florent chapel and the Bilon hill. The lake's banks are home to remarkable fauna and flora, such as the last lake meadows of the Vosges. The groups of trees rising on the slopes tell a lot about the site's acidity, humidity, and mountainous characteristics. No less than six types of forests bear witness to the diversity of the region's soils.
