Six weeks of drying

The virtues of donkey’s milk have long been established. Used in ancient times as a cosmetic product, donkey’s milk also comes into the composition of natural soaps. At the asinerie of the Domaine d’Esthine, in the village of Carolles in the Manche, donkey’s milk is initially reserved for the new-born foals. As donkeys produce only 1.5 litres of milk in a day, just a small quantity (between 300 and 600 ml in a single milking) is collected daily for use in the cold saponification workshop. Once made, the soaps are cut out, stored, and dried for six weeks.
