Notre-Dame de Boscodon, founded in 1142, is an abbey of Romanesque style testifying to the primitive Cistercian art by the extreme simplicity of its architectural elements, the harmony of its volumes, and the quality of its masonry. Its abbatial church takes up the simple symbolic geometric figures of the cross, the square, the circle, and the pentagon. The abbey was established near a quarry of cargneule stone, its unwavering founding element which absorbs and reflects light and heat. Notre-Dame de Boscodon also uses the rot-proof essence of larch wood for the frames of its cloister.
