Louis Majorelle signed almost all of his works, sometimes in the form of a scallop shell marked Majorelle, Nancy. Other signatures were more conventional, with the M and the J forming a cross. Louis Majorelle was a prolific cabinetmaker, and many of his works are still for sale on the art market. His work at the Villa Majorelle propelled him as a major figure of Art Nouveau. The house is an immersion into Nancy at the time of the Belle Époque when economic expansion rhymed with the beginnings of consumerism.
