Shrubs with very colorful bracts
0
0
Bougainvillea are thorny and particularly colorful climbing shrubs highly valued as ornamental plants. Commonly mistaken for petals of brightly colored flowers, the bracts at the end of the branches are not the flowers of the plant. They owe their pronounced color to the presence of betacyanins combined with large amounts of flavonols. The flowers are, for their part, small and white and concealed by the bracts.
