The pink color of the greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) appears over the years, from the age of one year and until 4 to 7 years, when its intensity is at its peak. It is due to its diet based on Artemia salina shrimps, rich in keto-carotenoid pigments capable of coloring not only the feathers of the greater flamingo but also, in certain seasons, the Camargue salt marshes it inhabits.
