Sharks are essential actors of the marine ecosystems and play a key role in the survival of corals. Their decrease causes a fundamental change in the structure of the reef food chain by increasing the number of intermediate predators, such as snappers, which eat herbivores such as parrotfish. These herbivores feed on invasive algae preventing the resilience of the reefs after cyclones and bleaching.
