The weaning of Przewalski foals (Equus ferus przewalskii) in the wild is progressive and double. It begins around the age of 8-10 months with the food weaning that occurs a few weeks to a few months before the mother's next farrowing. It is extended by the social weaning that coincides with the departure of the two to three years old foal to another group.
