Flax fibres are carefully inspected before being combed to separate the long fibres from the short ones. Long fibres are used in the manufacture of clothing, household linen, wall coverings and furnishings, and technical fabrics; short fibres are used in the manufacture of stationery and eco-materials such as insulation and composites. Each crop is different and the trained eye of the inspector is essential to assess its quality and possible use.
