Corsica is a mountain in the sea and the highest island in the western Mediterranean but half of the territory is surprisingly covered with forests. Even if the island is plagued by the summer drought and despite the rocky soils, Corsican forests are a treasure trove of biodiversity. They are home to many endemic plant and animal species, including the Laricio pine (on the shot). It is the favorite habitat of the Corsican nuthatch, a small passerine bird.
