The posidonia - 'U Tassonu' - which darken the Corsican seabed are endemic plants of the Mediterranean. They are not algae but flowering plants which once grew on the land before colonizing the marine biotope in which their role is essential. They stabilize the sandy bottoms, reduce the effects of the swell and provide fish with a favorable environment for spawning and rearing.
