The machining of wood on a wood lathe produces a large quantity of sawdust, i.e. small particles and fine wood chips from which the turner must protect himself, in particular at the level of his eyes and the orifices of his face (nostrils, mouth). While Robert Marichy, an experienced turner, is content to wear ordinary glasses to prevent projections, it is recommended to wear protective masks or visors, as fine sawdust can lead to inhalation of carcinogenic particles.
