Built for the 1889 Paris World Fair, of which it was the major attraction, the Eiffel Tower was to be returned to the Municipality of Paris, which owned the land, on 1 January 1910 at the end of the twenty-year concession granted to Gustave Eiffel. The tower was protected from being dismantled on scientific grounds by its designer who, at the end of the 19th century, oriented it towards the transmission of signals by wireless telegraphy. On 5 November 1898, Eugène Ducretet established the first radio link between the Eiffel Tower and the Pantheon, opening the door to the installation of a transmitter of great interest to military authorities.
