Built in 1909 by Joseph Goulet, the lighthouse of Verzenay suffered heavy damage, like the whole village, during World War I. It later served as a machine gun post for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Almost entirely destroyed by the conflict, it remained abandoned until the municipality of Verzenay bought it in 1987 and decided to restore and extend it. In 1999, a museum dedicated to the vine opened next to the lighthouse. It explains the history of the region's vineyards and traditions, along with an exhibition of wine-growing tools.
