Breaching, a constitutive behavior of mysticetes
9
0
Breaching is the most spectacular behavior of the mysticetes (baleen cetaceans) which, despite their weight of several tons, rise partially or entirely out of the water, often several times consecutively. All species show this behavior, with the exception of the much less demonstrative pygmy whale. Of all the whales, the humpback whale is the greatest breacher and appears to be a real acrobat.
